“Papacelle” also called “paprecchie” or “pupacelle” are small peppers with a globose shape that are cultivated everywhere in Campania. The fruits are round, of an intense red or green, and are squashed at the ends, with a full and crunchy pulp and a very aromatic and characteristic flavour. Some ecotypes are more or less chili, and are mostly preserved in vinegar. Papacelle are prepared in a different way in different places. they are a very characteristic ingredient of many traditional recipes. They are delicious dressed with tomato sauce or stuffed and served as side dish.
